Perfect Red Lips

I've seen a few posts on how o get the perfect red lips and I thought I would give my take on this.

Red lips can be so intimidating for people to try but it is really about confidence, I think you won't truly look good in red lipstick if a) You can't apply it well and b) You don't feel comfortable wearing it. So if you feel like you're ready to give it a go then keep reading for my top tips!

So here's my application:

1. Start off with clean lips.
Remove any product on there are for perfect application use a lip exfoliator to remove any chappedness, this is especially important if you are going to use a matte colour because it will cling to the skin flakes and look terrible!

Before applying any colour use a treatment lip balm, lips can tend to feel super dry after having lipstick on for a long time. So try to give them a treat before and after to keep them in good condition.

 2. Use a lip liner.
This will help to firstly prolong the wear of your lip colour and secondly help intensify the colour.

Try and find a lip liner that will best match the lip colour. I also think a benefit of using a lip liner before lip colour is hat you can draw out the shape as a guide and it will make it easier and less scary to put the lipstick on.
Fill in the rest of your lips with lip liner, it will just help to keep the colour on everywhere and keep the colour even all over the lips.
 3. Choose your colour

There are so many shades, tones and finishes to choose from. This isn't just for red either, especially with MAC I have noticed the astonishing range of finishes in so many different colours. If you don't know what to go for then I would suggest that you speak to a MAC Consultant and they can help.
4. Apply!
I am using MAC Russian Red, this is a super intense deep red. It's a matte colour (it does look slightly glossy because of the lip balm but that does fade).

Here's a rundown of my tips and tricks to make your red lip flawless!

1. Choose the right colour for you
As I said there are so many options but mainly the issue is choosing the right undertone. If your skin has a cool undertone then you want to go for a blue toned red (like me!) and if you have a warm undertone then you should go with more orange based reds. If your a lucky duck with a neutral undertone then everything works for you!

2. Treat yourself!
Yeah you can go and buy an expensive red but that's not what I mean! You need to prep your lips for any colour to keep application smooth and flawless. I recommend a good lip scrub (my favourite id the Elf Lip Scrub) and then choose a treating lip balm to condition.

3. Keep within the lines
As mentioned before I think it is good to have a lip liner, it's not necessarily essential but it helps and you will see the difference in colour, application and crispness of the lines.

4. Powder power
Again not an essential step but I highly recommend for matte lipsticks and it again will help the staying power of your lipsticks. What you should do is apply the lip liner and lipstick and the blot of any excess, then apply a thin layer of loose powder and reapply the colour to finish. It just helps the colour grip onto something and last.

5. Winning smile
No one wants the dreaded lipstick on teeth situation. It's so embarrassing if your chatting away thinking you look good and then you look in the mirror and see big red marks on your teeth. To prevent this you can blot your lips with tissue after application to avoid excess or more for something more amusing put your lips around your finger and slowly pull your finger out, it will take away any excess that was too close to your pearly whites.

6. Clean it up!
If you're having trouble keeping within your lip lines then a good finishing trick is to grab a fine brush and concealer that matches your foundation and run it round the edge of your lips to cover up any mistakes. It will make the shape of your lipstick look super sharp.

And those are all the tips I have!
If you have any amazing tried and tested tip for red lips or lipstick in general leave a comment :)

Eventually I have posted a new video and what better to start off with than a good ol' monthly favourites.
I think I waffle a little in this so please excuse my awkwardness :)

The Drugstore Edit #3: Elf Corrective Concealer

In my previous post I mentioned that I would be alternating the weeks that I post The Drugstore Edit and Beauty Smackdown just so there is a bit of regularity :)

So this time I'm looking at the Elf Corrective Concealer in the Erase and Conceal colour selection.

To start off, the packaging - I love the packaging, I think that all of the Elf Studio products are somewhat reminiscent of NARS but without the rubbery finish.
I like that you can easily see what the colours look like so you know what you're getting.

It does have a small mirror which is somewhat useful for touch-ups but other wise I don't tend to use it.

So you get yellow, blue, green and pink and they are supposed to cancel out any irregular colours and make them neutral. I love the concept of this because there is nothing worse than being able to see red skin through your foundation.

It comes with a small brush which is a neat idea but is practically useless because the consistency of the concealers is horrible! I found that the only one that was workable was the blue concealer but the rest were really hard to blend and get enough colour, by the time I had blended it on my skin I had caused more redness then I had to begin with.

I felt like the blue was quite greasy feeling when I had used it. The colours also seemed to grip onto any dry skin I had which just made it look worse.

So suffice to say I really don't like this product but it was only £3.75 which is nothing to complain about.

Literally the packaging and price are the only positives and I really don't like anything else about this so I am giving this a 2/10. I don't want to discourage anyone from trying this because it could be great for other people. So if you do want to try this than you can get it at www.eyeslipsface.co.uk or at any drugstore I guess for my US readers!

Let me know what you think of this product if you have had a chance to try it :)

Videos...Again

I keep doing this to myself and it annoys me deeply. I promise that I'm going to get into doing more videos and then I never deliver because I am so lazy.

This needs to stop and I will try my best to do more because I haven't done a video since mid-December. I will start off by doing a January favourites video to try and get back into the swing of things and then I'm thinking I might start doing tutorials.

This is going to take serious effort from me and I will try my absolute very best to get this done.

As for my blog, you know I have my 2 running articles which stupidly and Wed/Thurs every 2 weeks on the same week. I had these ideas one after the other and couldn't wait to get to work on them, so I think I am going to have to change this and I will have The Drugstore Edit every other week on a Wednesday and then The Beauty Smackdown on the alternate week on a Thursday so at least I am doing something every week and keeping things active, I might think of more things to do so keep an eye out!

The Mask of Magnaminty!

Sounds epic right?!
I saw that Nicole Guerriero on YouTube was using the Mask of Magnaminty from Lush and I just knew that I had to have it.

I got the face and back pack, it's the big size of the pots and not that I really wanted to get the full size because I had never tried it before but it's all they had left and I really wanted it, I think it was just under £10 so I think that's great value.
I've used this about 3/4 times now and I am in love with it. Personally I think it is like a mild version of Glam Glow - It is amazing for getting rid of black heads, it makes my skin feel really soft but the only thing it doesn't do for me is get rid of my dry skin, which Glam Glow does. I can deal with that because it does such a good job at getting rid of blackheads.
It has this weird herby minty smell which isn't too bad aswell!
I apply it with a standard foundation brush which means that the mess is minimal and you get an even application, I always suggest apply masks with a clean foundation brush because of the neat application. It says to leave it on for 5-10 mins but to be honest, sometimes I leave it on for 30 minutes because I generally forget that it's on haha! It does no harm to do that or at least it doesn't for me and I never feel like my skin comes out dry/dehydrated because of it. I haven't experienced breakouts and I actually think it's helping get rid of mine so that is a total bonus.

If you suffer with blackheads then I really recommend this because it gets rid of mine in an instant!
It's £5.25 for the 125g size and £9.25 for the 325g - available from www.lush.co.uk

Becca Resurfacing Primer Review

I've had a chance to get to grips with this product over the last week so I feel as thought I can give a decent enough review :) Everyone seems to be on the hunt for the perfect primer and given the latest releases I think it's a good opportunity to take a look at some less known products.

The packaging is a fairly plain tube style which is always great and you do get a fir amount of product at 40ml which is about the same as you would get in a foundation tube/bottle. The design is super sophisticated and to me it just oozes luxe but I think the brand as a whole does.

This is the actual product. It's not anything special to look at but I really like it. I do feel like you have to use a lot of product because it doesn't spread all that well, the bright side though is that I haven't experienced a greasy feel with this and it doesn't make my make-up slide round like some poorly made primers do. It has a lovely mattefying (dunno if that's a word!) texture, which I love and as far as I'm aware there is no discernible smell - there's nothing worse then having an unpleasant smell linger around especially when it's right under your nose!

I certainly wouldn't purchase this at the usually price (unless I was treating myself) as it is £32! But as you may have read in a previous post of mine, I was imformed that the company has gone into liquidation so I managed to get it for the amazing price of £9.99. As far as I'm aware it is still normal price in stores that normally stock the Becca brand but I'm not too sure.If you can get a hold of this then I really recommend this especially if you have oily skin because it's such an awesome product.

I plan to have a few more reviews posted soon so keep an eye out for those :)

Calvin Klein Megavolume Mascara Review

I posted about an amazing store that I found the other day and said that I was going to do some reviews on the products that I bought so I thought I would get going with this by talking about the CK mascara I piced up for the super amazing price of £3.99!

The packaging is super plain, it's just a plain black tube with the white CK logo on top.

Also please excuse my nails, they chipped away super fast for some reason. I literally painted them about 2 nights before.
The wand is plain too, Just super defined bristles.

I'd say as far as applicators go this is nothing special. It is pretty much the same as those disposable ones.

So I went ahead and did a comparison, the left is the CK mascara and the right is Smashbox Full Exposure. As you may or may not know the Smashbox mascara is one of my all time favourites so I thought it would be a good comparison point. I have very short lashes anyway and I find that the Smashbox manages to really get every lash and coat them perfectly whilst separating them and the CK one doesn't lengthen quite as much but gives such a beautifully natural finish. I think the CK formula is great and reapplication is easy, this only thing I would actually complain about is that the wand could be better shaped to really grab the lashes. I'm probably going to use this on dress down days because I really do like it and honestly think it's worth recommending to everyone (provided you can get a hold of it, I don't think it's that readily available)

I hope you enjoyed this review and look out for my reviews of the other products I got :)

10 Beauty Mistakes I Used To Make Tag!

This was a tag I saw by Belle from Maltesers and Mascara and she tagged everyone so I thought I would give it a go. Here is her post for reference: http://mascara-and-maltesers.blogspot.co.uk/2014/01/10-beauty-mistakes-i-used-to-make.html

Here we go!:

1. Bad skincare
Well lets be honest, no skincare. Only recently (the past 2 years) I have actually started taking care of my skin. I never understood the importance of skincare until I really got into makeup and to be honest have left my skin in a bit of a state and wish that I had taken care of it sooner!

2. Panda eyes
I too, like most, went through I bit of a goth/emo stage and this involved applying loads of eyeliner all the way around my eye, and if I was feeling arty I wing the outside and the inside, I feel like I should try and recreate this look for some reason!

3. Pink eyeliner
Oh yes! I think this was actually a lip liner but I used to double line my under eyes with black and pink and I thought I was so arty and cool and I was actually going for the tired almost dead look. I would never in a million years dream of doing this again unless it was part of costume makeup.

4. Foundation that was too dark
I never intended this but as I could only afford drugstore makeup I didn't have a lot of choice and to be honest the colour selection, especially if you are stupidly pale, is rubbish. I used to use Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid which has such an orangey tone to it and I have tried other brands too with no avail. So having a better income has really helped and also finding out how you should colour match foundation because I never knew there was such a thing as cool/neutral/warm undertones!

5. Applying foundation when my skin wasn't ready
I didn't use a primer (I had never heard of such a thing!), I didn't moisurise ad I used to just apply the foundation with my hands right onto my bare skin and I had horribly dry flaky skin and it used to cling to every bit and show it up like mad!

6. Applying eyeliner only to the waterline
I don't mind this if it's balanced on top but on days where I didn't use the panda eye approach I used to put on some mascara and and line my bottom waterline and it just looks so heavy and really makes your eyes look droopy.

7. No Blush/Bronzer
I never used either of these because I didn't know that they were important. I didn't think blush was that necessary and being only exposed to those who over apply it then I was certainly put off, same goes for bronzer but being as pale as I am I thought it would just look ridiculous and didn't realise that you could do so much and add so much dimension with both. So I used to walk around with flat colour foundation, yuck.

8. Foundation lips
I think I feel most embarrassed about this one. But I think it's a phase that everyone goes through and you end up looking like you have no lips.

9. Makeup for days
Another part of me not taking care of my skin was that I was a serial offender for not taking off my makeup at the end of the day, I didn't see a point if it was still hanging around. I used to just neaten it up and carry on. I seriously wish I hadn't because it's so bad and probably caused a lot of breakouts.

10. Tide lines
Most of my makeup mishaps are to do with foundation and this is an absolute no no and a total sin! Considering I was using foundation that was too dark, I never blended it down my neck so it came to an end on my jaw and you would have seen it from a mile off!

I hope you enjoyed this and I'd love to know your makeup mistakes so I am tagging everyone, especially Catherine at bigbookssmallgirl.blogspot.co.uk

Amazing Bargain! You have got to read this!

I went shopping yesterday and found something that I have to share.
I apologise because I know that there are only a small amount of these stores and I think they are only in the north of England :( But if you can get there then do!

I was in a shop called Xtras in Newcastle Eldon Square. Some of you may know about this store, if not then here is the website :) http://www.xtras.co.uk/

I will admit that some of the makeup I wouldn't buy but I am certain that a lot of their products are american imports as I have seen brands like Almay and Wet n Wild. My whole point is that recently I saw a few rave reviews on a brand called Becca, which is high end and I found it in Xtras, the great thing about this store is that the products re mega discounted and there is nothing wrong with the products but I am given to understand that the Becca company has gone into liquidation and that's why they are selling them at such low prices. I managed to get the resurfacing primer for £9.99 instead of £32.00 so I am super happy.

Not only that but I managed to get a Calvin Klein mascara for £3.99. I have wanted to try the CK brand makeup for a while because I'm curious about the quality so you will see reviews of the primer and mascara in the very near future :)

Thanks for reading

Beauty Smackdown #2: Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Eye Roll On VS Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

Apologies for the long title but it wouldn't be helped!

If you read The Drugstore Edit post I did yesterday then you would know that I featured Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Eye Roll On and I thought it would be good to compare it to another product.

I'm not too sure if I mentioned this when I did my first Beauty Smackdown but the products I feature aren't high end against drugstore. In this instance I'm showing you 2 drugstore products so just an FYI :)

Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Eye Roll On
Vs
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

So lets crack on with this.

First up, Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Eye Roll On. If you read my post yesterday then you will know my feelings on this product but I'm just going to sum it up for you.

Pros:
- Nice consistency
- Great packaging
- Has a great care element

Cons:
- Limited colour selection
- Not a lot of coverage

So really I don't think I have a lot of bad things to say and to be honest I think this product could be amazing if you fit into the right colour and don't need an awful lot of coverage.

Next, the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer. Now if you have read previous posts in my blog/ watched my videos then you will know that I use this an awful lot!

Pros:
- High coverage
- Easily blendable
- Not prone to creasing (not for me at least)
- Super affordable

Cons:
- Not a great colour selection
- I feel like I get a lot of product wastage because of packaging

I truly love this product because it is so inexpensive yet it is a massively amazing product.
I find it hard to fork out on any high end products because I'm skeptical that they could do a better job.

In my opinion the Collection concealer definitely wins but I do urge people to try both because they are so amazing and if you are interested in getting these products then they are available from most Boots stores and the Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Eye Roll On is priced at £9.99 and the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer at about £2.99/£3.99 I can't quite remember!

I really hope you enjoyed this post and keep an eye out for others :)

The Drugstore Edit #2: Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Eye Roll On

So I know this post is very late in the day, at least for us Brits and possibly a day late for any of my readers who are ahead of my time but anyway I wanted to get this done.
Today I am going to be showing you the Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Eye Roll On and what I think of it.

Firstly can I say that I hate the name, my hatred has nothing to do with anything in the name but its the sheer length of it and it bothers me.

Anyway lets talk about the packaging! I love it. Plain and simple, love it. I think it's well designed especially in comparison to Garnier's other eye roll ons and their hard packaging, I always feel when you get something like this you are going to get your moneys worth because you can squeeze every drop out of it.

The product - I like the formulation and I think it blends beautifully and it is great for those who feel like they need a product which will give extra care as it is a BB cream. The coverage isn't fantastic and to be honest I am disappointed with the colour range, like I am with most drugstore products. This was too dark for my skin, I could just about get away with it but wasn't right, I think they may have only had light (which I bought) and medium, possibly a dark shade but I'm not certain.

The price wasn't unreasonable at about £10 roughly.

Overall I would rate this as a 6.5/10 purely because the colour and coverage weren't great for me but that doesn't mean that it won't be a total win product for someone else, I truly feel that this could be amazing and honestly if you have dark skin than I do then it might be worth checking out.

I hope you all liked this edition of The Drugstore Edit and keep an eye out for the next issue in 2 weeks and don't forget there is another Beauty Smackdown tomorrow!

My Beauty Wishlist!

<a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/blog/11572417/?claim=x3pz85ckdm3">Follow my blog with Bloglovin</a>

Lately I have seen so many blog posts on what beauty products everyone is looking to buy and naturally I thought I would share my opinions. I have thought a lot about this and I have to say that I now feel like I neeed these items, so here we go:

1. Clarisonic Mia 2
I have wanted one of these and definitely felt like I needed one ever since I first saw them. I have dry combination skin and usually my forehead and nose is where I get the most flaky. I honestly can't wait to get a hold of one of these, I will feel like all my problems have been solved!

2. Maybelline Baby Skin
I feel like I am missing out here, lots of bloggers have reviewed this and I think it's out in the UK so I will have to get my hands on it. I loved the Baby Lips line and I know it's completely different but I'm hoping that whole 'Baby' line will be excellent.

3. Benefit Porefessional
This is a totally raved about product in the beauty community and I am running seriously low on my current primer and based on the reviews it seems like the next one to try!

4. Maybelline Color Elixir
It seems like I don't really have to say anything about this because loads of people seem to be talking about this. I know they aren't available in the UK yet and I really can't wait for them to be because they just look so amazing. Intensity of a lipstick, shine of a gloss and care of a balm - What could go wrong?!

To be honestly I don't feel like I want that much, I'm sure there will be other things that I am desperate to buy but in the meantime these are the things I am focusing on!

Let me know what's on your wishlist :)

Celebrity Inspired Makeup! Just a thought!

As the title suggests I have had an idea (again!) and I want to do some celebrity inspired makeup tutorials. I keeps having a few ideas here and there and thinking it would be amazing to do. So I am currently working on one at the moment (Yippee!) and I am writing down several other which I'm thinking about doing.

So I'm not gonna give away what celebrity I'm working on at the moment because I think it spoils it but expect to see it either as a blog post or as a video (which I haven't done in ages!) soonish haha!

Speak to you soon!

Elf Palette Review

A couple of days ago I went onto the Elf website because I needed another lip exfoliator (amazing product!) and they had a 50% sale so I treated myself to a 100 colour palette. t arrived this morning and I have but together a short review for you :)

So here is the palette, It has really nice simple packaging and you can see most of the colours so at east you know what types you are getting.

But getting on to my thoughts, overall I give this palette a 4/10 and here is why;

To be honest, I am really disappointed by this and I am happy I did not pay full price, even though full price isn't even that expensive.

I can say for it that I like that it has a good range of colours (it even has red!) and a nice amount of mattes, shimmers and satins.

The mattes were probably worst of all. When you first swatch the colours (even satins and shimmers) the pigment doesn't look too bad, mattes had the least but I thought that they might apply well. They were all kind of wishy-washy when you actually apply them, this goes for all finishes so applying with a brush is useless, I would recommend dabbing on with a finger to get the best colour payoff and also use a cream base for it to hold onto.

The issue I had with satin/shimmer is the amount of fallout! it was crazy.

Here I have a set of swatches, I chose a shimmer colour to demonstrate.
Top is swatched with a finger
Middle is swatched with a brush
Bottom is applied with a cream base underneath.

I think I can still use these and they would be ok for costume makeup so I think I will save them for that sort of thing.

Obviously I don't want to discourage anyone from buying these because you might really like them but they weren't for me. They were only £7.50 reduced from £15 so it's not too bad.

Anyway, I am planning to get some more videos on the go, I'm just trying to find better software for this but I should be up and running again soon.

I hope you enjoyed my review and I will speak again soon :)

Makeup of The Day!!- Super Vamp!

I really enjoy doing these posts so I thought I should do another and today I have gone very dark and super vampy!

Recently I went to MAC and decided to kick it up a notch in the dark lips dept, literally I have been searching for this colour for so long and I just love it so much!

Let's crack on!

First of all, sorry about the rubbish lighting, it looks hella darker in normal lighting.

Eyes, I have used Urban Decay's Naked 3 Palette (Strange, Burnout, Limit, Buzz, Nooner, Factory , Darkside and Blackheart) and seriously this lighting does it no justice because there was so much depth and colour in this look!
I also have Collection Extreme 24 Hour Liquid liner on (Super amazing stuff) and finally I finished it off with
MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash.

On my lips I have MAC Lipliner in Burgundy and a MAC lipstick in Diva (So in love with this colour, its like a really deep wine colour.

I really hope you like this look as much as I do and keep an eye out for more posts.

Beauty Smackdown! - Elf Lip Exfolitor Vs Lush Lip Scrub

I had another idea! I want to do a 'Beauty Smackdown' where I take two products and share my thoughts and opinions and tell you which one I think is the better product. I thought of this because I know there have been times where I can't decided between 2 different products and I just end up making a totally uninformed decision an potentially make a rubbish choice! So I hope this helps you all :)

Elf Lip Exfoliator Vs Lush Lip Scrub

So what I will do is just run though the pros and cons of both product and give you my overall verdict.

Elf Lip Exfoliator

 Pros:

- It's in a lipstick shape
- It's highly moisturising
- It's an intense scrub
- It's inexpensive
- It's smells like vanilla (could be a con if you don't like vanilla, but I do)
- It's made with sugar and tastes pretty good.
- It's compact
 Cons:

To be honest I literally can't think of any cons other than I with that you get more product because it's that good!

Lush Lip Scrub

Pros:

- The Scrub is quite intense
- It smells pretty good
- It's compact
- It's inxpensive

Cons:

- It has salt in it too so I don't think it tastes that good (If you like salt/sugar popcorn then you will love it)
- The application can be awkward and not very precise.
- Very messy

I am a little sad to say that I'm not a massive fan of the Lush Lip Scrub after I had heard so many good things about it. I think that if there is one made with one sugar and not salt then I might be able to use it but that fact that it is also quite messy is a bit too much to deal with.

If you are interested in trying either of these products then here are the details of where to get them and also the price. UK readers will be pleased to hear that you can get Elf products but you have to buy them online from their website (Linked below):

Elf Lip Exfoliator:
Price: £3.75
From: www.eyeslipsface.co.uk

Lush Lip Scrub
Price: £5.25
From: Nearest outlet or if you can't get to one the you can buy from www.lush.co.uk

I hope you have enjoyed this post and let me know what products you would like to see go head to head!

The Drugstore Edit: Maybelline Brow Drama

As promised, here is the first of many Drugstore Edits for my blog! :) enjoy!

So I'm reviewing the Maybelline Brow Drama sculpting brow mascara for this edition and I know it's relatively new and so I wonder how many of you have been able to try this. I'm also curious to know where it's available.

So as you can see the packaging is quite simple, sort of reminds me of an all black tube of the great last mascara. So I like it, it's not fancy but it's straight to the point about what it is.
I really don't like the applicator. I get the point of the ball part and separately the straight part but not together, the ball part makes the other part completely useless! I can't get enough product with the ball part anyway so I have to smush down the bristles which will eventually ruin it anyway but I'd love to use the other part to help evenly comb through my brows.
Here's a swatch to prove my point. I had to push down the applicator just to be able to get this amount. I think it can be really uneven too.

Another downside is that I think it only comes in 2 colours so if you have red/black light blond hair then you probably won't find a colour to match.

Not to mention I really wouldn't recommend this if you've forgotten to do brows, if you can get any product then it will cling to any hairs so you have to be super scrupulous. This also wouldn't work if you have very sparse brows. I also tried this over the top of my normal brow kit and it does make it look a little more natural but not enough to make it worth it.

I don't think I could slate this anymore and I really wanted to like this but it just isn't for me. If you feel like you could use this and I'd probably say that if you have thick well shaped and groomed brows then this might work for you. It retails for £4.99 so it's totally inexpensive.

Well I hope you like this and look out for 2 weeks time when I do the 2nd edition of The Drugstor Edit!
